Operant Approach
This behavioural approach assumes that behaviour is learned as a result of positive or negative reinforcements and that if behaviour has no rewarding consequences (whether positive or negative) the behaviour will stop over time.
With this model a service user`s behaviour is understood by a functional analysis (observing and recording the behaviour by using an ABC recording chart). We analyse the behaviour and try to understand from the service user`s perspective, to find out what is maintaining it. We then devise and implement an appropriate behavioural programme to help the individual develop more adaptive stategies to achieve the desired outcome.
This has proven to be very successful for people with Autistic Spectrum Disorders and they can be easily adapted to suit those with communication difficulties and also those with learning disabilities.
All our staff are fully trained to adopt these models and work with individuals in a Person Centred Approach .
We work in collaboration with other agencies, to meet the health requirements of service users, including General Medical Practitioners, local Hospital Services, Dental Services and other Community based services such as chiropody, speech & language therapy and physiotherapy.
